is a type variety (dialect, ethnolect and sociolect) of the American English language. It is known colloquially as Ebonics (a portmanteau of "ebony" and "phonics"). With pronunciation that in some respects is common to Southern American English, the variety is spoken by many African Americans in the United States. AAVE shares many characteristics with various Creole English dialects spoken by blacks in much of the world. AAVE also has pronunciation, grammatical structures, and vocabulary in common with various West African languages.Like any form of language, age status, topic, and setting influence the use of AAVE. For example, research has found that AAVE is used more often when discussing abstract concepts, such as feelings, and when speaking to members of one's own peer group.

(여기서 다양성은 현재 미국영어중 하나로치부되고있지만 현재 거의 영어의 다양성으로 한단계 수치상승한 분위기입니다. 학계에서는요^^) 격식상 "석탄같은" 표현으로 알려져있다. 미국의 남부영어와 발음이 비슷하고, 흑인영어의 다양성은 미국의 많은 아프리카계 미국인에 의해 사용되어진다. 흑인영어는 또한 크리올 영어 사투리와 유사한 특징을 공유해 세계적으로 많은 흑인들이 사용하고있다. (크리올: 피진이라는 특수목적에 의해서 만들어진 언어라고 하는데 이런 완전치 못한언어가 결국 2세대째 가면서 모국어로 사용되어지면 크리올이라고 합니다.) 흑인영어는 발음이나 문법구조 그리고 보케가 서부 아프리카 언어와 매우 유사하다. 어떤 언어와 마찬가지로 나이문제, 주제문제등등이 흑인영어 사용에 많은 영향을 가했다. 에를들어 조사자들이 발표하기를 흑인영어는 좀 더 추상한 개념이나 이러한 느낌들 그리고 자신의 동료에 대해서 애기할때 더 많이 활용된다.
